Description
Chemistry of Essential Oils – CPD – 12 points (IFPA) / 10 points (FHT)
Essential oils are the aromatic life force energy of living plants and consist of chemical compounds which have hydrogen, carbon and oxygen as their building blocks. Having once been part of living plants they are described by that part of chemistry known as Organic Chemistry. All living plants and creatures great and small contain atoms of carbon, and so it came about that Carbon was invariably associated with life; thus organic chemistry is also sometimes known as the Chemistry of the Carbon Compound.
Chemistry of Essential Oils is a course that takes the student from basic levels to a competent level of understanding of how chemical molecules in essential oils can affect pathological conditions in humans. The course is aimed at aromatherapists who seek a deeper understanding of the chemical composition of the tools of their trade (essential oils, carrier oils and hydrolats) and their many pathological effects on the human body.
The student will practically explore the shapes of various molecules and how they change and develop into essential oils. Blending according to the chemistry of essential oils will be put into practice during the course. An invaluable course for students who want to really know how essential oils work in the human body and who want to blend according to chemistry rather than by traditional methods.

What to Wear?
Students at the Academy are encouraged to be relaxed and at ease. For this reason, it is recommended loose comfortable trousers and tops are worn that enable easy movement and do not restrict the body. All loose tops and shirts should be tucked in to prevent ‘trailing’ on the client for practical courses. Shoes should be flat-heeled and comfortable.
